A comparative assessment of the cost of iron powders produced by the melt atomization method and by dual reduction of rolling mill scale

Abstract

1. The cost of iron powder produced by the atomization process is higher than that of iron powder produced by the dual reduction process. This is due to the higher cost of the starting material used, which represents 50% of the total cost of 1 ton of iron powder. 2. Since, however, iron powder produced by dual reduction from a briquetted charge must be additionally annealed, its true cost rises and exceeds the cost of atomized powder by 72.60 rubles per ton (at annual outputs of 15,000 and 25,000 tons, respectively).
