Some well-known experimental facts about the combustion of solid homogenous dibasic fuels at a constant are considered in this paper on the basis of the theoretical possibility that the combustion is self-oscillatory in character. The fact that a burning fuel may be extinguished if the external pressure is reduced sufficiently rapidly is interpreted for combustion in self-oscillatory conditions. Extinction curves, measurements of the thermal structure of the combustion waves, and various functions are studied in order to demonstrate that the concept of oscillatory combustion provides a single, natural explanation for diverse and seemingly paradoxical experimental observations.
