Barium ferrite permanent magnets

Abstract

1. We have selected and introduced the following optimum conditions for the preparation of isotropic barium ferrite magnets: a)Barium oxide content 15 ± 1%; b) kaolin content 1%; c) roasting of mixture of ferric oxide and barium salt at temperatures of 900–950‡ with five hours holding time; d) pressure during pressing 1.5–2 t/cm2; e) sintering of magnets at a temperature of 1160–1260‡ with two hours holding time. These conditions ensure the preparation of isotropic magnets with the following magnetic properties: Br = 1900–2200 G;BHC = 1600–18500e;IHC=2800–35000e; (B×H)max=0.8·106−1.0 · 106 G·Oe. 2. We have developed optimum conditions for the preparation of barium ferrite powder and an apparatus for the pressing of magnets in a magnetic field. These conditions ensure the preparation of two groups of anisotropic magnets with the following magnetic properties: I group-Br=3300–3700 G;BHC=3000–24000e;IHC=3400–25000e; (B×H)max=2.5·106−3.0·106 G · Oe. II group-Br=3500–4000 G;BHC=2500–1600 Oe;IHC=2600–17000e; (B×H)max=2.8·106−3.5·106 G · Oe. The recommended conditions for magnets of the I group: roasting of a mixture of Fe2O3 and Ba (NO3)2 at 1150‡ with five hours holding time and sintering of the magnets at 1220–1260‡ with two hours holding time or roasting of the mixture of 1200‡ and sintering of the magnets at 1180–1220‡. The recommended conditions for magnets of the II group: roasting of the mixture of Fe2O3 and Ba (NO3)2 at temperatures of 1200–1250‡ with five hours holding time and sintering of the magnets at 1240–1280‡ with two hours holding time or roasting of the mixture at 1300‡ and sintering of the magnets at 1220–1260‡.
