The class of heterogeneous metallized mixtures is very broad with respect both to composition and to technical applications. The use of metallic fuel or metal compounds in compositions capable of self-sustaining combustion is mainly conditioned by the large energy release in the combustion wave during metal oxidation (burning). The high-energy metals include B, Al, Mg, Zr, Ti. However, preference is often given to aluminum and magnesium, which combine high energy content with relatively safe handling, excellent compatibility with other components, ease of ignition, and completeness of the chemical reaction in the combustion wave. The object of the research reported in this paper was to analyze the change in the principal combustion characteristics of simple compositions based on Al and Mg and an inorganic oxidizer with variation of the component ratio over a broad interval.
