A parameter analysis was made of blast furnace regimes: blast, charging, slag, and thermal. It was found that blast furnace efficiency could be increased by equipping the furnaces with computer control technology. A West Siberian metallurgical shop introduced an automatic data processing and control system which automatically controlled batching of charge components, regulated the charge basicity and slag stability, weighed and tracked pig-iron output, and collected, analyzed and transmitted data to the center computer. This automated system was found to reduce coke consumption, reduce the ore burden, and eliminate the subjective accounting of charge components and pig iron output.
