This paper discusses the phenomenon known as ''microexplosion''-the breakup of drops in the combustion of emulsified fuels. This can also be termed intrachamber fragmentation, which is characteristic for all fuel emulsions containing a polar liquid (water, methanol, ethanol, etc), including emulsified gasolines and also threecomponent disperse fuel systems consisting of boiler fuel, coal, and water, i e., coal-boiler fuel slurries. The physical essence of this phenomena is described. The use of fuel emulsions and suspensions gives a major economic advantage. Moreover, in a number of branches of the national economy including petroleum, coal-tar chemical, chemical, and others, the wastes that are being formed can be burned in boilers and furnaces in the form of emulsions and suspensions in boiler fuel oil or solid fuel. This offers a means for successful resolution of the environmental protection problem and a reduction of costs for the construction of treating facilities.
