Preparation of lithium greases by the use of internal and external polarization

Abstract

1. The feasibility of using internal chemical and external polarization in lithium-grease manufacture has been investigated. Only by the joint use of the two factors in polarization action on the system, both in the stage of thermomechanical dispersion and in the stage of cooling and crystallization, is it possible to obtain greases with optimal rheological property indices. 2. The joint use of internal and external polarization during the thermomechanical dispersion stage will eliminate the softening (destructurization) of lithium greases that is otherwise observed when the greases are exposed to high temperatures. 3. An interaction between internal and external polarization has been demonstrated, and optimal values for one type of polarization have been established relative to the intensity of the other.
