Alloyed steel intended for hot rolling mill rolls

Abstract

The complex alloyed high carbon 170Kh4M2F5 type steel in the original condition with an inadequately annealed matrix (650 HV) has a martensitic-troostite base structure and excess M3C, M23C6, M7C3, and MC type carbides. Austenite is formed over the 748 to 885°C range. Heating at higher temperatures results in the successive dissolution of the chromium carbides; M23C6 in the 950 and 1050°C range; M7C3 in the 1050 to 1150°C range. Vanadium carbides do not dissolve at temperatures up to 1150°C.
