The combination of temperature-programmed thermal desorption with heating rates β of the order of 1 K s−1 and laser-induced thermal desorption with β of the order of 1010 K s−1 has proved to be a suitable method to determine both the frequency factor v and the activation energy Ed of desorption. The systems Ni(110)/N2 and Ni(110)/CO serve as examples.
