L'A. propose un commentaire sur la soi-disant multiplicite des termes utilises en eskimo pour designer la neige et sur l'abondance des articles ecrits a ce sujet. Pour ces articles, la richesse lexicale est en effet un etat des choses parfaitement normal, etant donne l'interet que portent les Eskimos a la matiere et elle devrait nous donner a tous une lecon sur les dangers de la generalite. L'A. denonce ce point de vue en montrant que l'absence de terme general pour designer la neige prouve l'incapacite des Eskimos a raisonner de maniere abstraite, et en concluant que les Europeens sont inconscients des vertus de la generalite et des dangers de la surdifferenciation
