In August 1954, an alga was collected from accumulations of rain water in a field in Goregaon, a suburb of Bombay . A prolonged spell of dry weather in September caused the disappearance of the alga . It was collected early in July in the following year at the commencement of the rains and disappeared at the close of the wet season, as in the previous year . It was also collected in 1956, but in lesser amount . In 1957-58, the area from which the alga was collected was built upon and no further collections could be made .
