
Skemp (1977) showed that he was all too well aware of the importance of affect in learning mathematics. He talks about the importance of maintaining interest and motivation – issues which still concern us today. He understood the notion of ‘revulsion’ (p. 117) and laid the blame at the door of teachers, their pedagogy and relationship to pupils.
