The Ellipticity of Galaxy Clusters

Abstract

This paper deals with changes of ellipticity with radial distance from the cluster centre. The Dressier sample of galaxy cluster is analysed. It is shown that the ellipticity changes are statistically significant. In many clusters they are not caused by subclustering. For this reason ellipticity changes ought to be regarded as an intrinsic independent cluster feature.
