Abstract

This paper is divided into three parts. The first outlines the place of Schutz in the phenomenological movement. The second deals with the role Schutz played in making phenomenology a going concern in North America. The third offers an appraisal of contributions Schutz made to phenomenology both as philosophy and in its application to the social sciences.
