Regional Science has recently formulated a number of new methodological approaches and some quite sophisticated models, many of which relate to the understanding of a systemic approach to urban realities and the search for tools for its development, beginning with the improvement of decision-making processes. These are, however, often theoretical constructions which are difficult to apply, firstly because they are unable to fully reflect the real complexity of the urban system and secondly due to the lack or scarcity of urban and regional indicators.
