Obstructive lung disease like chronic bronchitis, asthma, pulmonary emphysema and their numerous combinations result from acute or chronic influence of noxious factors on the structures of the respiratory system. While in chronic bronchitis and asthma the conducting airways are affected, in pulmonary emphysema the integrity of the pulmonary parenchyma and especially of its elastic connective tissue is endangered.
