
In GFAs, companies commit themselves to negotiated labor standards and rules for employee participation. But what happens if a company does not fulfil its commitments? Can MNCs be held accountable? At national level the observance of contracts is ensured through legal enforcement. However, GFAs go beyond the national level, and there is no legal framework geared to the specifics of GFAs at either global or EU level (Zimmer 2012, p. 31). This absence gives rise to major uncertainties.
