This report examines recent developments in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSs). It is written to make the new technologies available to the transportation engineering community. These new technologies are made possible by recent developments in the areas of smart sensors, intelligent controllers and novel communication and signal processing software and hardware. The application of these technologies to traffic management, transit management, automatic toll collection, incident management, traveler information and traffic surveillance and considered as integral parts of an ITS.
