
After the progressive individualization of dentistry occurring parallel with the industrial development of the 19th century, this sub-discipline of the art of healing consolidated its position. It was helped by the fundamental research done by such authors as Johannes Muller, R. Virchow, Pasteur and R. Koch, in the field of general biology, and by Tomes, Linderer, Magitot, Preiswerk, Miller and others more specifically in the dental field.
