Abstract

Wie komplex das Gehirn auch sein mag, das Elektroenzephalogramm (EEG), Ausdruck der elektrischen Aktivitat von hundert Milliarden Nervenzellen, scheint uns etwas uber seine geistig-seelische Tatigkeit zu offenbaren. Schon Hans Berger, der Entdecker des EEG, beobachtete, das die Alpha-Wellen beim Schliesen der Augen merklich zuruckgehen: Sie sind also ein Mas fur die Aufmerksamkeit. Es ist in der Zwischenzeit viel uber die wirkliche Bedeutung des EEG spekuliert und geforscht worden. Wir besitzen aber gegenwartig weder eine Antwort auf die Bedeutungsfrage noch auf die Frage, wie die EEG-Wellen uberhaupt in ihrer Regelmasigkeit zustande kommen. Der Zurcher Neurologe Dietrich Lehmann hat versucht, das EEG als Spiegel intellektueller Vorgange zu erkennen [5]. Er leitete aus dem verwirrenden Wellenbild einfache EEG-Landkarten mit Bergen und Talern ab, die sich entsprechend dem Hirnzustand verformen. Verschiedene Gedankeneinheiten erkannte Lehmann an der Stabilitat der EEG-Landschaft. Er stellte dabei fest, das Gedankeneinheiten im EEG-Bild meist zwischen 0.5 und 3 Sekunden dauern. Es ist dieselbe Zeitspanne, wie sie auch fur Verse von Gedichten benotigt wird.
