Longitudinal data is in fact a special type of multi-level data where repeated longitudinal data points can be observed for each individual. In this situation, the repeated longitudinal data points can be viewed as nested within each individual, and subsequently, the individuals can be nested within classrooms, and classrooms can be further nested within schools, etc. With the nested structure, longitudinal data is just to add another level to the existing multi-level data structure.
