
Particularly in the USA, life expectancy has been falling, as rates of obesity, drug and alcohol abuse grow. Research has found that people feel rushed and family time is reduced, despite the potential for labour-saving technological innovations. This chapter sets out the evidence of studies on these issues, and how the quality of relationships might be improved, at the levels of households, neighbourhoods and wider communities.
