The role of meson exchange currents in electromagnetic (and weak) interactionsof nuclei has been repeatedly inquired into. Interest was generally on static moments, reactions with photons or sum rules. In the past years, however, excitation of nuclear discrete levels by electron scattering has developed into a powerful tool for the investigation of nuclear structure. Now that measurements are being improved towards better resolution and higher momentum transfers, there is an urgent need to get a feeling of this role here. This is the aim of the work being reported, which also consists in a systematic study of form factors of levels in 12C at excitation energy above 14 MeV.
