The Mass distribution of the Galaxy is reasonably well understood. Out to a radius of at least 200kpc, the enclosed mass increases roughly linearly with radius at about 10(10)M(circle dot) per kpc. The inner mass distribution is inconsistent with what we know to be present in stars and gas. Recent evidence indicates that the potential gets quite round at large radii.
