The results obtained are a solid starting point for a more detailed study focusing on the knowledge of the distribution, the abundance and the population dynamics of demersal species. The TSDV is based on ArcView GIS 3.0 software by ESRI and was developed within the framework of theFIGIS project of the European Community. The current version makes use of data from surveys in the Gulf of Castellammare in Sicily from 1993-94 and it can be generalised to historical data relating to any geographical context.
