
AbstractAn aqueous extract of Cochlospermum planchonii rhizomes prepared in the manner used by native medical practitioners in northern Nigeria to treat jaundice protects CCI4‐treated rats from liver damage measured as elevated serum levels of diagnostic enzymes. The extract inhibits cytochrome P‐450 monoxygenases aminopyrine‐N‐demethylase and aniline hydroxylase, suggesting a plausible hepatoprotective mechanism.
