
A cathode plate with outgrowing spikes may serve as a field emission source for electrons. An estimation is presented for the field concentration according to a regular array of spikes. Spike cathodes have been produced from a semiconductor matrix containing needle-like metallic inclusions by etching-off a matrix layer. The investigation of these cathodes reveals an irregular emission patteren corresponding to the imperfect cathode structure. Nevertheless, the performed experiments together with the theoretical considerations demonstrate the feasibility of spike cathodes. Eine Kathodenplatte mit nadelartigen Auswuchsen kommt als Feldemissionsquelle von Elektronen in Betracht. Die Spitzenwirkung einer regelmasigen Nadelanordnung wird abgeschatzt. Ausgehend von einer Halbleitermatrix mit nadelformigen Metalleinschlussen wurden Nadelgitterkathoden hergestellt, und zwar durch Abatzen einer Matrixschicht. Die Untersuchung dieser Kathoden lies unregelmasiges Emissionsverhalten erkennen, das mit der unvollkommenen Kathodenstruktur zusammenhangt. Trotzdem zeigen die angestellten Experimente zusammen mit den theoretischen Betrachtungen die grundsatzliche Brauchbarkeit von Nadelgitterkathoden.
