AbstractA rigorous analysis is presented to determine the resonant frequency and Q factor of an asymmetrical resonator. The Galerkin method is used for the resonant frequency calculation, and the computation time is largely reduced by evaluating the integrals analytically. The method is found to converge rapidly by taking different numbers of modes in the dielectric and air regions yielding an excellent characterization of an asymmetrical dielectric loaded cavity. The agreement of the obtained results with experimental data proves the validity of the method.
