AbstractThis paper describes how to design an electromagnetic band gap (EBG) resonator antenna to radiate directive patterns for multiple frequencies. The principle is explained and applied to a GSM/DCS antenna. A prototype which is smaller than the GSM/DCS antenna for ease of manufacture, is realized. The operating frequencies are 4.2 GHz and 7.4 GHz. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 40: 420–423, 2004; Published online in Wiley InterScience (www.interscience.wiley.com).
