Abstract

AbstractChlorophyll existiert seit ca. 3 Mrd. Jahren und steht mit am Beginn der Evolution. Dieser chirale, grüne Magnesium‐Porphyrin‐Komplex absorbiert als Photosensibilisator in den Antennen der Lichtsammelkomplexe der Chloroplasten alle Anteile des sichtbaren Lichts außer Grün. Diese Energie wird an die Reaktionszentren der oxygenen Photosynthese weitergeleitet. In dieser Redoxreaktion entstehen aus Kohlendioxid und Wasser Kohlenhydrate und Sauerstoff. Wir beschreiben die Strukturaufklärung der Chlorophylle, diskutieren Struktur und Eigenschaften, ihre Verwandtschaft zum Häm des Blutes, Alltagsanwendungen und denken über Grünes in der Sprache nach. Die Reinisolierung von Chlorophyll a aus Spinat ist eine experimentelle Herausforderung, die wir im Detail schildern. Alle analytischen Spektren werden vollständig entweder im Hauptteil oder in der supporting information wiedergegeben und interpretiert.
