</script>The custom of opening the college session with a general address is an appropriate one, for it affords an opportunity to discuss some topics of interest alike to the medical student and teacher which are not provided for in the curriculum. It is well at times to take a somewhat general survey of our profession, to study its tendencies and get possibly a clearer vision of what should be its ideals. MEDICINE AND MODERN SCIENCE. In common with every branch of knowledge, medicine has felt the influence of the great advance in modern science. The progress made in the collateral subjects, biology, chemistry, physics, bacteriology, to which medicine is so closely related, has made necessary a general readjustment of opinion.
