This article deals with the state of trades and crafts development of the rural population of Kherson province in the second half of XIX – at the beginning of XX centuries. It is highlighted prevalence of trades within the territory of Governorate depending on population density, grouping according to national signs, specified production fields, etc. It is analyzed the main agricultural areas of rural population and their influence on the general farming industry level of development.The important role played by trades and crafts in southern Ukraine, in particular Kherson province, the development of market economy of the post-reform period is fairly highlighted. At the end of the 19th century, these forms of economy management, designed to meet own, local needs were an important part of farming and the field of activity of the population of the province. The lack of profitability from the engagement in agriculture caused by shortage of arable land and large population density (Alexandria, Elisavetgrad counties) and imperfect agricultural implements, forced some of the inhabitants of the province to turn to ancillary trades: horticulture, viticulture, apiculture, stone quarrying, charring, fishing, weaving, pottery.The research of the trade development at the regional level is also important, which necessitates scientific inquiries, allows to develop peculiarities and local conditions of the agricultural sector. Involvement in various crafts and trades in Kherson province directly depended on the revenues of farms from farming. Peasant trades of Kherson province during this period in most farms were to support agriculture except for the German settlements, where the development of trades was at an adequate level.

Рассмотрено положение с развитием промыслов и ремесел сельского населения Херсонской губернии во второй половине ХІХ – вначале ХХ вв. Отображено распространение промыслов на территории губернии в зависимости от плотности населения, группирования по национальному признаку, определенными отраслями производства и др. Проанализированы основные направления не земледельческих занятий крестьян и их влияние на общий уровень развития крестьянских хозяйств.

Розглянуто стан розвитку промислів та ремесел сільського населення Херсонської губернії в другій половині ХІХ – на початку ХХ ст. Висвітлено розповсюдженість промислів по території губернії залежно від щільності населення, групування за національними ознаками, певними галузями виробництва тощо. Проаналізовано основні напрями не землеробських занять селян та їх вплив на загальний рівень розвитку селянських господарств.
