Current state of development of third age universities in Ukraine

Current state of development of third age universities in Ukraine

Abstract

The given statistics of population aging testifies to the growth of the number of the oldest old. It was found that at the beginning of the XXI century the focus of adult education on ensuring socio-cultural progress, long-term maintenance of the creative, innovative potential of each adult member of society was important. It is analyzed the experience of realization of the social project "University of the Third Age". The activity of universities of the third age in Ukraine during the last 10 years is characterized. It is revealed the following 3 types of such establishments: 1) operating, working actively and constantly; 2) operating, but the work is carried out periodically; 3) inactive, but listed. It is proved that Ukrainian universities of the third age become educational centers for further personal development of the oldest old, their social integration, socialization, and adaptation in the context of globalization processes.
