PSYCHOLOGICAL FEATURES OF THE PERSONAL IDENTITY OF WOMEN SENTENCED TO IMPRISONMENT

PSYCHOLOGICAL FEATURES OF THE PERSONAL IDENTITY OF WOMEN SENTENCED TO IMPRISONMENT

Abstract

Introduction. In the context of the humanization of the penitentiary system of the state, there are changes in the attitude of convicts to serving their sentences, in particular, the transition to non-custodial sentences. Theoretical basis. The problem of resocialization of convicts is important, it is traditionally studied in legal psychology. This is due to the need to ensure an individual approach to convicts and persons released from prisons, preventing their return to a criminal way of life, the formation of socially supportive forms of behavior after release. For a convicted woman, this problem is complicated by the inevitable social stigma, disruption of important family ties, greater difficulties compared to men in restoring social functioning (finding a job, housing, etc.). The categories of women who have children as well as minors are particularly vulnerable. Research methods. The study of the substantive characteristics of the identity of women sentenced to imprisonment was carried out using the following methods: "Who am I?" (M. Kuhn, T. McPartland), "Defining the clarity of the self-concept" (CCC) OV Kirichuk and S.O. Tarasyuk. The use of these methods also allowed to indirectly assess the features of self-esteem of the subjects, using a comparison of the number of emotionally positive and negatively colored characteristics of self-description. Results and discussion. The process of resocialization is a complex problem determined by the social environment in which the punishment takes place, the specifics of interpersonal interactions in this environment, the psychological characteristics of the convict's personality. Personal identity was considered in the article as an important resource for resocialization of convicted women. It inevitably changes with such a radical change in lifestyle as imprisonment, which is associated with a change in social roles and self-esteem. Conclusions. Thus, personal identity acts first as the basis of adaptive potential to changed conditions when imprisoned, and then - as an integral characteristic that changes in the process of resocialization.
