In this paper we will analyse the Church’s position on the care of foundlings, the ecclesiastical censure of mothers who abandoned them and the contribution of the pulpits in the dissemination of such ideas aimed at encouraging public charity and increasing ecclesiastical power in the organisation of social welfare in Early modern Spain.
