Firstly, we'll look at the knowledge of contemporary agriculture, its shortcomings and the solutions found to remedy some of them. Secondly, we'll look at traditional knowledge, its definition, a methodology for retrieving it and its content as applied to the Massif Central. Finally, we will conclude with a discussion of the possible role of traditional knowledge in the development of the body of modern knowledge. We will see that traditional knowledge emerged from a long maturation of farming and breeding practices, on the scale of each agricultural region, initiated by the first agricultural revolution of the modern era in the 19th century. This knowledge was perfectly adapted to the pedoclimatic context of each agricultural region. The second agricultural revolution of the mid-twentieth century artificialized production conditions. Traditional knowledge could therefore be a relevant resource for reconnecting agriculture more closely with nature. Through hybridization with recent knowledge, traditional knowledge can contribute to the advent of remunerative, socially and ecologically sustainable agriculture.Translated with DeepL.com (free version)
