Abstract

The paper analyzes all lexemes in the dictionaries "Etimološki rječnik hrvatskoga ili srpskoga jezika" by Petar Skok, "Hrvatski etimološki rječnik" by Alemko Gluhak and "Etimološki rječnik hrvatskoga jezika" by Ranko Matasović, Tijmen Pronk, Dubravka Ivšić Majić and Dunja Brozović Rončević, for which the possibility of Russian origin is given. The introductory part deals with linguistic contact with an emphasis on borrowing and is followed by an overview of language contact between the Croatian and Russian languages and an overview of the etymological dictionaries of the Croatian language. In the central part of the paper, potential russianisms from the etymological dictionaries are analyzed with regard to the time of their first attestation and the application of transphonemization and transmorphemization. The potential russianisms are listed in the table at the end of the paper. Along with the lexemes, the table lists the formally closest Russian equivalents, the positions of three dictionaries on the origin of the lexemes and, if necessary and possible, notes, most often concerning the time of first attestation.
