Abstract

Karolina Kupetytė. DEVELOPING INFORMATION LITERACY IN ELEMENTARY EDUCATION: TEACHERS’ UNDERSTANDING AND PRACTICAL EXPERIENCES. Bachelor’s Thesis. Supervisor: Assoc. Prof. Gabrielė Stupurienė. Vilnius University, Faculty of Philosophy, Vilnius, 2026, 58 p. The bachelor’s thesis “Developing Information Literacy in Elementary Education: Teachers’ Understanding and Practical Experiences” analyzes teachers’ understanding of information reliability and the practices applied in developing students’ ability to evaluate information, based on literature and research findings, and compares the understanding of teachers and working students when evaluating texts and photographs. The relevance of the study is determined by the continuously increasing amount of information and advancing digital technologies, which pose challenges especially for children whose information literacy skills are not yet sufficiently developed. The teacher becomes a significant mediator in shaping students’ abilities to assess the reliability of information. The aim of the study is to examine how primary education teachers understand and, in their practical activities, develop students’ ability to distinguish reliable information on the internet. The object of the study is primary education teachers’ understanding and practical activities related to the development of information reliability skills. Objectives of the thesis: 1. To analyze the concept of information reliability and disinformation in scientific literature. 2. To examine primary education teachers’ understanding of information reliability. 3. To reveal the practices applied by teachers in developing students’ ability to evaluate information. 4. To compare the experiences of different groups (working students and teachers). Research methods: In order to achieve the aim and objectives of the study, scientific literature analysis and quantitative research were employed, using a questionnaire survey with closed-ended and open-ended questions. Research participants: The study involved 18 working students and 20 practicing teachers. Research results: The findings of the study indicate that primary school teachers and working pedagogy students understand the importance of developing students’ information reliability skills; however, the practical application of these skills and their effective development in schools are still insufficient. The conducted research revealed that working primary education students demonstrated better abilities to critically evaluate digital content than teachers. Keywords: information literacy, information reliability, digital literacy, disinformation, misinformation, malinformation, primary education, critical evaluation, online information, teacher‘s understanding, teacher‘s practises, digital content evaluation, digital resilience.

Karolina Kupetytė. INFORMACIJOS PATIKIMUMO UGDYMAS PRADINIAME UGDYME: MOKYTOJŲ SUPRATIMAS IR PATIRTYS PRAKTIKOJE. Bakalauro darbas. Darbo vadovė doc. Gabrielė Stupurienė. Vilniaus Universitetas, Filosofijos fakultetas, Vilnius, 2026, 58 psl. Baigiamajame darbe ,,Informacijos patikimumo ugdymas pradiniame ugdyme: mokytojų supratimas ir patirtys praktikoje“ remiantis literatūra ir tyrimų rezultatais analizuojamas mokytojų supratimas apie informacijos patikimumą bei taikomos praktikos ugdant mokinių informacijos vertinimą, lyginamas mokytojų ir dirbančių studenčių supratimas vertinant tekstus ir nuotraukas. Darbo aktualumą lemia vis didėjantis informacijos kiekis ir tobulėjančios skaitmeninės technologijos, kurios kelia iššūkį ypač vaikams, kurių informacinis raštingumas dar nėra pakankamai išvystytas. Mokytojas tampa reikšmingu tarpininku formuojant mokinių informacijos patikimumo vertinimo gebėjimus. Tyrimo tikslas – išnagrinėti, kaip pradinio ugdymo mokytojai supranta ir praktinėje veikloje ugdo mokinių gebėjimą atskirti patikimą informaciją internete. Tyrimo objektas – pradinio ugdymo mokytojų informacijos patikimumo ugdymo supratimas ir praktinė veikla. Darbo uždaviniai: 1. Išanalizuoti informacijos patikimumo ir dezinformacijos sampratą mokslinėje literatūroje. 2. Išnagrinėti pradinio ugdymo mokytojų supratimą apie informacijos patikimumą. 3. Atskleisti mokytojų taikomas praktikas ugdant mokinių gebėjimą vertinti informaciją. 4.
