Abstract

С первых лет правления Петербурга на белорусских землях проводилась политика целенаправленного сокращения абсолютной численности представителей этого сословия. Первые проверки показали, что в дворянское сословие вступило большое количество лиц, ранее не считавшихся дворянами. Это произошло из-за отсутствия понимания местных особенностей новой администрацией. Например, в 1811 г. было выявлено около 200 тысяч человек из других сословий, зарегистрированных как принадлежащие к дворянскому сословию, только потому, что они говорили по-польски и были католиками. С другой стороны, не все лица, имевшие дворянские права, записывались дворянами.
