Abstract

The work aimed to evaluate the performance of japanese quails in growth period. The birds were submitted to diets substituting protein sources of vegetable origin and flour of commercial fish, for flour of silage of fish. 150 female quails were used, with 37 days of age, distributed in randomized blocks, in 3 treatments: Control – based on vegetable ingredients (C), flour of silage of fish added of degreased rice bran (FSF + DRB) and flour of commercial fish added of degreased rice bran (FCF + DRB), being complemented with the other necessary ingredients to the demands of the birds, in agreement with NRC 1994. The diets were offered for 90 days, with abates made in 30, 60 and 90 days. The assessed variables were: average weekly weight, alimentary conversion and carcass yield. The data checked through analysis of variance and test of Tukey, indicated that the weight gains, as well as the other analyzed variables, of the quails submitted to the different diets did not differ (p>0,05) from each other, it indicate that the tested diets demonstrated satisfactory qualities for the species under study.
