Abstract

The article focuses on the economic importance of Northern regions and their ecological role as a weak link of the biosphere. Arctic and adjacent Northern regions constitute a traditional habitat and economy of numerically small indigenous people of the North. The state is a guarantor of public interests in respect to preservation of Northern ecosystems, which role requires abiding by the principles of sustainable development, further improvement of legislature, and implementation of strict measures aiming at preservation of Northern nature.
