This article gives the definition of procedural landscapes and describes their modeling algorithms. It describes 2D and 3D procedural landscapes and clouds generating methods by dint of midpoint displacement algorithm. This work contains the description of ways to achieve photorealism modeling reliefs: separate modeling of the landscape (on example of hill algorithm) and modification of already simulated landscapes (on example of island modification, normalization and flattening).
