Abstract

In the introduction to the article the author makes a short review of university museums’ history in foreign countries and in Russia. The author also analyses the main themes of university museums in Soviet times. The main object of the article is the Museum of Siberian Architectural History, founded in Novosibirsk State Academy of Architecture and Fine Arts in 1995. Unique museum collections were completed by the great scientist, historian of Siberian architecture Sergey Balandin. The idea of making a museum of Siberian architectural history was formulated by another famous Siberian architect, Andrew Kryachkov, S. Balandin’s mentor. The museum of Novosibirsk State Academy of Architecture and Fine Arts now revives the best traditions of university museums of XVIII-XIX centuries. The museum can become a source for optimization of scientific work in the academy and in other universities. While using museum programs in the educational process, an assured specialist can be educated. In the museum students can improve both their professional skills and mental level, while studying the heritage of Siberian architects.
