Abstract

In the middle of the XIX century, as a result of the reform of the system of woman’s education, a new type of educational institution emerged in Russia — women’ gymnasium of Empress Maria’s department of institutions. One of the main differences of the gymnasium from the existing womens’ schools, boarding schools and institutes was that all social estates could be trained there. Before of the emersion womens’ gymnasiums, an active discussion of the supporters and opponents of women’s education took place. This article examines the history of the foundation of one of the first of womens’ gymnasiums of Mariinsky Department — Kolomenskaya Gymnasium.
