Abstract

Kostroma Povolzhye has been opened up since the mesolithic epoch. Since the early iron age, this territory has been involved into the process of formation of one of the peoples of the group of Finno-Ugric ethniclinguistic family, Merya; since the 11th century, Slavic population has been settled on these lands. What is the result of this entry, is the culture of the so-called «Kostroma tumuli». Since the 13th century, a signifi-cant population group from the South Rus' regions has been migrated to the lands of Kostroma Povolzhye. The ethnic situation like that causes assimilation of the autochtonous Kostroma Povolzhye population by the predominating migrants and active implication of Ko-stroma land into making of Muscovy. However, more likely, scarce writing references on Kostroma land have been available no earlier than since the 16th century. In 2015, a finding of a stone article allowed stating aspects of quite an interest concerning the qualitative content of this region's history.

С XIII в.
