The teaching activity of V.I. Beliaeva at the Archaeology department of SPbU lasts already more than thirty years. We knew each other from the student days and in the last twenty years work «side by side». Over the passed years, I could directly watch her work with students and postgraduates specializing in study of the Stone Age. Since 1982, Valentina Ivanovna Beliaeva conducts all training related to the study of Paleolithic, and associated and related (source study) disciplines. Many outstanding specialists read the course of lectures on the Paleolithic at the Archaeology department of SPbU. Valentina Ivanovna has managed to find her own approach to the substantial part of the course and the form of its presentation, organically united questions of history and study methods of Paleolithic sites, required skills of typological and technological analysis of artifacts, and cultural-historical generalizations. Other areas of teaching are long-term studies of the Pushkari group of sites, where a traditional archaeological field practice is going on, and research activity, which includes students and postgraduates of the department.

Преподавательская деятельность В.И. Беляевой на кафедре археологии исторического факультета СПбГУ длится уже более тридцати лет. Мы знакомы еще со студенческих времен и в последние двадцать с лишним лет трудимся «бок о бок». За истекшие годы я мог непосредственно наблюдать ее работу со студентами и аспирантами, специализирующимися на изучении каменного века. Начиная с 1982 г., Валентина Ивановна осуществляет всю подготовку, связанную с изучением эпохи палеолита и сопряженных смежных (источниковедческих) дисциплин. Курс лекций по палеолиту на кафедре археологии читали многие выдающиеся специалисты. Валентина Ивановна сумела найти свой подход к содержательной сути курса и форме его изложения, органически соединив в нем вопросы истории и методов изучения палеолитических памятников, необходимые навыки типологического и технологического анализа артефактов и культурно-исторических обобщений. Другие сферы преподавания многолетние исследования Пушкаревской группы памятников, где проходит традиционная полевая археологическая практика, и научная работа, в которую включены студенты и аспиранты кафедры.
