Abstract

Nomenclature determination of phraseological competences and organization of work on their formation is an important issue due to the new, result-oriented education paradigm aimed at the competence-based approach and stipulated in the Third Generation Federal State Educational Standards. The purpose of this article is to describe the formation of phraseological competences in linguistics students in the course of studying verbal phraseology of modern English. The choice of language material for the research is explained by the fact that verbal phraseology is a perfect language material for the formation of students’ general linguistic competence, primarily because the verb is the core of the utterance. The object of our study is the microsystem of verbal phraseological units of modern English, their leading functional component being the polyvalent verb make. The objectives of this research consisted in identification and characterization of phraseological competences as well as in establishing of the step-by-step algorithm of their formation interfaced with studying concrete practical and theoretical linguistic disciplines according to the programme. The key methods of our research were as follows: theoretical analysis of the general pedagogical and methodological ideas, as well as analysis and synthesis of personal teaching experience. The article considers and categorizes around thirty phraseological competences and offers an innovative approach to their gradual, step-by-step, formation unlike the traditional sporadic learning of phraseology.
