Abstract

The article describes the principles and characteristics of independent work of students of the pharmaceutical faculty at the Department of Pharmacognosy and Botany in a credit-module system. The systems approaches, directions and learning methods for independent work of students in the modern system were analyzed to improve effectiveness of absorption of the basic material on the subject. The paper analyzes different types of independent work used in the classroom of Pharmacognosy. Among them is e x tracurricular self-study; tutoring a student with a teacher (independent work under the supervision of a teacher); compulsory independent work of students on approved program themes listed annually reviewed and refined. E x tracurricular self-study includes homework, preparation for lectures, workshops and various types of tasks, which are, performed during the trial, educational, industrial, predegree practices; preparation and defense of course thesis and diploma project. It is noted that for distance learning control tests are recommended. Participation of students in the scientific society of Pharmacognosy (preparation of scientific abstracts, articles, reports, reviewing the works of other students, participation in scientific conferences, competitions, quizzes), and production of visual materials, preparation of teaching aids are identified as a separate category of independent work. Independent work of students in classroom sessions includes solution of typical tasks, filling charts, tables, fulfillment of training tasks, situational problem tasks that require thinking, remembering and simple reproduction of previously acquired knowledge on the subject. This work is dependent on the level of a student’s e x tracurricular time. Therefore, this independent work should be understood as specific tasks, which are assigned, by teacher and Вісник проблем біології і медицини 2015 Вип. 2, Том 3 (120) 57 МЕДИЧНА ОСВІТА the procedure for implementation, evaluation criteria is the subject of a detail review for participants of the training process. This article is accentuated particular attention to the impact of Internet sources in preparation of students for practical lessons. Among the informational sources electronic databases which contain the recommended literature, lectures and guidance to students, play important role for improving the quality of self-learning. However, sometimes it provokes students to the technical use of the materials without the necessary analysis and search. One of the types of mandatory independent work of Pharmacognosy is to prepare course thesis. Its aim is to deepening the knowledge that students have received lectures and practical classes. The ultimate aim of the course thesis is the demonstration of skills of independent work with sources of educational, scientific and additional literature, video, print and electronic sources. During course thesis work the student have to learn independently identify the main areas of present-day research on the chosen topic; find selected literature, to analyze the basic scientific literature; to do the practical part, to execute the course thesis by methodological requirements. In order to improve learning skill there are ahead tasks which aim is to help students to learn educational material in full or partial e x tent. This material can be used in lectures and on seminars. Thus, independent work of students in the study of Pharmacognosy greatly depends on the teacher and the student, their joint efforts. Independent work of students is multidimensional and multi-vector and needs constant improvement.
