Abstract

The study is based on all available oceanographic data collected in Peter the Great Bay. The average long-term typical distribution of oceanographic characteristics (seawater temperature and salinity, content of dissolved oxygen, phosphates, and silicates) is analyzed using four data sets. The surface data collected in Peter the Great Bay in July to September describe the surface water conditions during their maximum warming-up. The data set of the so called warm years consists of 3699 stations and covers the years such as 1952, 1958, 1960, 1967, 1968, 1973, 1975, 1978, 1984, 1988, 1991, 2000, and 2006 to 2008. The data set of the so called cold years consists of 2104 stations and covers the years such as 1954, 1957, 1962, 1974, 1979, 1980, 1983, 1993, 1995, 1996, 1998, 2002, and 2009. The data for 15-meter depth to the bottom (and to 100-meter depth in deep waters) collected in April through June are good to describe the preceding winter cooling-down of the bay waters. Among the data set describing the warm subsurface bay waters there are 1273 stations, which cover such years as 1953, 1968, 1974, 1976, 1981, 1989, 1991, 1992, 2002, 2004, and 2008. The data set of cold years contains 1119 stations and includes 1962, 1972, 1973, 1978, 1980, 1985, 1987, 1988, 2003, and 2006.
