Abstract

The paper deals with the issues of improvement of energy performance and reduction of operating costs of AC electric locomotives with commutator traction motors in a regenerative braking mode. The methods to improve the power factor and reduce the consumption of sand in the regenerative mode are proposed. Expected results are given a preliminary estimation. The paper shows the results of mathematical modeling of standard operating conditions and proposed methods of AC locomotive power performance improvement in the form of diagrams of currents, voltages and speeds.
